Incident Command System Training

  • The Emergency Response Consulting Group provides specialized training in crisis management, the National Incident Management System (NIMS), and the Incident Command System (ICS) to responders of all types, preparing them for response to emergencies, disasters, and potential threats within their jurisdiction and beyond. Training courses can be designed to meet the specific needs of the organization or agency. Courses are intended for law enforcement, fire service, EMS, local governments, public works, security divisions, schools, colleges, public health, hospitals, and many other agencies as well as private industry and non-governmental organizations.

  • Instructors from the Emergency Response Consulting Group are nationally-certified to teach the latest United States Department of Homeland Security federal NIMS and ICS curriculum, consisting of individual training modules organized into several "building block" courses. These courses can be taught in a series, as recommended by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Training Plan, or individual modules can be "mixed or matched" to the needs of the intended audience.

  • Our instructors hold nationally-recognized Incident Command Instructor certifications from the United States Department of Homeland Security, as well as other emergency management institutions and organizations throughout the United States, attending many instructor-level certification courses nationwide.

  • The Incident Command System National Training Plan is a progressive curriculum developed and revised by a multi-agency, multi-discipline steering group and outlined by the United States Department of Homeland Security in their NIMS National Training Plan. Our courses often contain participants from several agencies and disciplines, which enhances the learning experience for all participants. Not all participants will need to advance through the entire curriculum. The ideal level of training for each person will depend upon their level of responsibility during an incident or event. The paragraphs below provide information on the standard curriculum offerings of the NIMS National Training Plan.   • The "Introduction to the Incident Command System" (ICS-100) course is the starting point for the entire Incident Command training series. ICS-100, Introduction to the Incident Command System, is delivered as a two (2) hour training course usually delivered in a two-hour classroom or virtual format which introduces the Incident Command System (ICS) and provides the foundation for higher level ICS training. This course describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of the Incident Command System. It also explains the relationship between ICS and the National Incident Management System (NIMS). The ICS-100 training course is the prerequisite for the ICS-200 training program.

  • The "Basic Incident Command System for Initial Responses" (ICS-200) course is delivered as a four (4) hour training course usually delivered in a half-day classroom or virtual format. The ICS Basic program is comprised of modules intended to provide all participants with an understanding of the primary components of the Incident Command System. The modules cover the Principles and Features of ICS, the ICS Organization, Facilities used to support incident management, Incident Resources, and Common Responsibilities for all responders. The ICS-200 course is a prerequisite for the ICS-300 course.

  • The "Intermediate Incident Command System for Expanding Incidents" (ICS-300) course is a twenty-one (21) hour course usually delivered in a two and a half-day classroom or virtual format. The ICS-300 course combines the application of the principles learned in the ICS Basic course with an emphasis on organizing and planning for incidents and events. The modules of the ICS Intermediate course cover Organization and Staffing, Organizing for Incidents and Events, Incident Resource Management, Air Operations, and Planning for Incidents and Events. The ICS-300 course is a prerequisite for the ICS-400 course and is typically the prerequisite for the ICS Skills Courses.

  • The "Advanced Incident Command System for Complex Incidents" (ICS-400) course is a fifteen (15) hour course usually delivered in a two-day classroom or virtual format. The ICS-400 course discusses advanced management applications of the Incident Command System including Command and General Staff, Unified Command, Major Incident Management, Area Command, and Multi-Agency Coordination. Candidates for this course should have a background in incident management in both academic and practical application and serve in a supervisory capacity.

  • The "Incident Command System Overview for Executives and Senior Officials" (G-402) course is an ICS orientation for executives, administrators, and policy makers. It provides a basic understanding of ICS, Unified and Area Command, and Multi-agency coordination to those persons responsible for setting or implementing policy, but who normally are not part of the on-scene ICS organization. The module also discusses responsibilities and information transfer between agency executives and incident commanders. An Executive Briefing is available to use when time does not permit the use of the full module. Approximate delivery time for the full module is two hours and delivered in a classroom or virtual format. All of our Incident Command Training Courses are delivered both mobile (in-person) and as virtual instructor-led training courses.
